placeholder2Why QRP

QRP is defined as not more than 5 watts output CW or 10 watts PEP SSB.

To operate with a standard rig, turn the output down to minimum.

Here's the math.....

10 watts compared to 100 watts = 10dB reduction

5 watts compared to 10 watts = 3 dB reduction

So total power reduction 10 dB + 3 dB = 13 dB reduction

One "S Unit" = 6 dB, therefore 5 watts is only about 2 "S Units lower hen 100 watts.

POPULAR QRP FREQUENCIES

CW - 1.836, 1.843, 3.560, 7.030, (USA also uses 7.040), 10.106, 10.116. 14.060, 18,086, 18.096, 18.106, 21.060, 24.906, 28.060

SSB - 3.690, 7.090, 14.285, 18.130, 21.285, 24.950, 28.365
