Public Service

LSRA has been involved in the following activities (either as a primary or a partner supporter):

- International Plowing Match and Rural Expo – LSRA was invited by Simcoe County to share it’s venue to highlight how amateur radio can be leveraged for Public Service and emergency communications.

- CanIRun – Orillia – Communications and safety support – Benefits 200 participants and some 400 spectators. We are aware that the number of events per year may be dropping to one. These are part of the CANIrun series.http://www.canirunning.com/index.php

- Camp Couchiching – showcase amateur radio / promote awareness – gain volunteer – Participants this year were about 100 people.

- The Pick Your Poison Trail Run in Horseshoe Valley – did not activate this year.

- Joint support for the Ganaraska Trail Run in Orillia to support diabetes.

- Supporting the Orillia Amateur Radio club in providing communications for the MS Walks in the region – we support the St. Johns Ambulance volunteers.

- The rowing regatta at Gulf Lake in Gravenhurst. We supplied start/finish time coordination and logistics support. Benefited 200 participants and some 500 spectators.

- The facilities of the LSRA will be featured to visitors and guests of the S. S. Keewatin at Port McNicholl. The exhibit will highlight how amateur radio supports the community through the technical innovation and volunteer support. During the summer period it is expected that over one hundred thousand visitors will explore the ship and amateur radio showcases.

- The repeaters of LSRA and some it’s members provided communications for Tour For Kids in past years. The tour took place in our area in August 2012. The link is for this years tour http://www.tourforkids.com/ontario/ride/maps.php#.USj8BqVCa-I

- LSRA members provided communication for the Limberlost run this year that took place in Muskoka in July this year. http://thelimberlostchallenge.com. Some one thousand people attended and / or participated.

- The facilities at LSRA and some members provided the communications for the annual Guides on The Air that took place at a Guides camp in Hawkstone this year. The D-Star and IRLP (VoIP) components of LSRA were used. This takes place around the world in February of each year.http://www3.ns.sympatico.ca/hfarchibald/In October the D-star and IRLP (VoIP) facilities at LSRA are used to provide a link between scouts’ troupes in our area with scouts’ troupes in other parts of the world. This is part of Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) http://scout.org/en/information_events/events/jota

- Pan-Am Games – some of our operators will be part of the communications teams for venues in the local area. This is a developing story.

- LSRA has been asked by a local FM radio station to be an information resource while supporting Public Service and emergency communications requirements.
